Two reasons I can think of as to why I sometimes play pred...

First, I'm too lazy to make a pred character, but every once in awhile there comes a situation where I either actually want to play the pred (it happens, I can't help it ;) ), or I think a RP would go best if I control what the pred is going to do... In most of the RPs where I play pred, I'm doing so because I want to play out what I wish the pred were actually doing to *me* - I'm relating to the prey character, even though they're played by someone else.

Second, many of us have a thing for really big, swollen bellies. Prey characters tend to be vastly smaller than preds; when the prey becomes the pred, the result is a very, very full belly :)

I agree with the theory about the underdog thing, too, Sandy :)

Another interesting theory is that we're switching sides so that we can reciprocate the attention and feelings that the pred gives us. I mean, let's face it, for many of us the vore thing is a kind of sex, or in some extreme cases vore is a *replacement* for sex ;) (And many times, yiffy stuff is combined with vore in an RP...) So, to always be the prey and never the pred is kind of like always being the one on the bottom during intercourse, or always being on the receiving end of oral sex, and never doing the same for your partner.
